"Fiction is true because it speaks about what it means to be human. It's reality, often times, being so superficially analyzed, that is false."
--Yann Martel author of Life of Pi
What is the significance of this quote? Do you agree with the quote? Why?
I don't like this quote because the story is supposed to be true!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like this quote because it is really deep. I feel I don't completely understand but I do at the same time. I feel it is so simple but I still don't understand the full meaning.
ReplyDelete-I disagree and agree because some of the stuff in the story can be real and then other parts of it are fake.

I don't agree with the fact that fiction is true. People have many ways of writing their stories, Some "speaks about what it means to be human" and some are just plain stereotypes about certain people. So you could say I am neutral about this quote.
ReplyDelete- I'm not really sure, but there are somethings that make it real and there are things that make it unreal.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with this quote, because some things in the story takes some use of imagination and most of the time the story isn't necessarily on fact.
ReplyDeleteI like this quote because I feel it is very true. Even though it might not be real in some way it is.

It is a deep quote that says a lot about the author and how they write.
ReplyDeleteidk because i think it tells you about life and stuff and i like the quote
ReplyDeleteThis quote is okay. Parts of the story seem realistic but others seem too fiction.
ReplyDeleteI think this quote is true, because sometimes truth can only be told through fiction.
ReplyDeleteI like this quote. I think that it means that even if a book is fiction and it not real it still has truth in it. We can see something in the book and can relate to us. Something we want to be. I might not be possible that it would happen, but we think of how we would act if it were true. -Chumani Wayd
ReplyDeleteThe quote was okay, but he should have made it different because I thought the book was true so why would it say it was false?
ReplyDeleteI don't think fiction is supposed to tell about what it means to be a human. So i don't really agree with this quote.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with this quote because all fictions are not all true.
ReplyDeleteThis quote is quite a quote indeed. I think Mr. Martel said this in response to someone inquiring about whether or not Life of Pi if fiction or not. I think what he is trying to illustrate is that just because the book isn't necessarily an account of the life of someone named Pi, it doesn't mean that the book doesn't have any real value. I found the story absolutely riveting and has affected me greatly. Also, I quite enjoyed all the things he said about religion, and even though Pi is a fictional character, I thank him for his insights into polytheism in its truest sense.
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree with this quote.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote because within every writting there is some sort of truth/reality.
I disgree with the quote because at some point, nothing can be realitily Some things just can not be true, or real.
I agree with this quote, there's a lot we can get our of fiction even though it it isn't real. Not everything has to be real to get a point or idea across.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this quote because you have to have truth to add to the fiction
ReplyDeleteI agree with this quote because it feels like that truth, but we all no its fiction. Some of the truth might be in the fiction.
