World Literature (3/17)

Do you believe the story in part 2 or Pi's new story in part 3? Why?

  1. I think I believe the part 3 story more because it seems more realistic but I would want the part 2 story to be really because it's not as gory or gross. Also, it doesn't seem as bad for a hyena to killing and eating a zebra compared to a man killing and eating another man.

  2. I like the story of part two! what we just read was not ok I think part two is better the way he was telling the story was not right I like part two better because it makes sense part three is very confusing to me it just does not make sense.

  3. I think it's obvious that the story in Part 2 is the real one. First of all, Pi said that this story will make you believe in God. Well, personally I think the part 2 story is more worthy of that claim. The part 3 story is just horrible. Plus, I don't think someone would devote nearly a whole novel to a fake story. It is possible that Pi could be delusional in some way; he could have invented this story to help himself cope with the terrible things he saw, but I don't think that was the case. I think part 2 is the real one. Even though this book is a work of fiction.

  4. Honestly I have no idea. Both stories can be true. I mean it could be that the story in part 2 is true but the Japanese people weren't believing him so he had to change it up. It could also be that the story in 3 is true but it was so disturbing and scarring that while he was on the boat he managed to change it all in his mind and convince himself that really the story in part 2 actually happened.

  5. I believe the story in part 2. My reasoning for choosing that story is because we've been reading this story for so long that you just kind of adapt to it and start to think what's happening is real. Plus it's more interesting, and it has a lot of detail. But at the same time it's hard to believe that Pi survived on a boat with those animals. Yeah, this book is just weird and all over the place..

  6. I believe part 3 cause it sounds more realistic. I think they are both partly true, but pi was imaging the animals instead of the sailor, cook and his mother. Either way, I'm not sure how he survived if he was this delusional.

  7. I believe the story in part 2 because it makes sense to me. His father works at a zoo. So of course there would be animals in the story. Plus its more interesting and descriptive. The story in part 3 didn't really explain as much as the story in part. Even though part 3 is more realistic, part 2 is interesting.

  8. -I believe in the part 2's story because part two goes with part one. I think he lied in part three because he did not want people to think he was crazy for staying on a boat with animals. Also in part two his parents die so how are they going to be in part three. Another thing is when Pi's boat collapsed Pi had food and water in his system so I do not think that Pi was making the story up in part two because it seems more real then in part one. So I think part three is a lie.

  9. - I think part 3 is better because It s have people instead of animals , so seeing that there are people there are real feeling and more serious . Some people don't really care about animals , people are another story . I think part 3 is better because it dramatic , although its short and gets right to the point its still good .

  10. The story in part two would seem more logical to us, but personally i'd like to believe part one. Even if part two wasn't the actual story, part one still had some of the same information. Also, I like Richard Parker. The fact that Pi was stuck with animals made the story better and not as scary. It taught me that people aren't much different from animals, even though we consider ourselves civilized. Part two was flat out scary to me. I guess when people are with people that act like animals it's more disturbing.

  11. In part 3 because it seems more real. and i think we have been reading part 2 for a really long time, and i agree with tomijia because we are all over the place with this book.

  12. I really dont no which one to believe of Pi's story because part two talks about how him and the animals were stuck on the lifeboat.Reading part three he talks about the cook, sailor, and his mother. So mostly I would go with part two,but I think he did that he changed it because of the Japanese people made him change the story differently.

  13. I doubt the second story is true, simply because when I read it, even the "emotional" parts seemed kind of.. Devoid of feeling. He said it more like a fact, and less of a story. I think that if I had to bet on it, the first story is more true than the second.

  14. If I did not know anything about Pi or all the animals on the boat I would believe the second story. The semi fake one.

  15. Yes. I think that that is hat really happened, and the Richard Parker story was just pi's way of coping with the situation. I think that the first story was just pi trying to avoid what actually happened to him.

  17. I would believe Pi's story from part 3. Part 2 sounds less likely to be real. Part three just sounds more realistic because he used humans instead of animals. The story with the animals sounds more like a fictional story.

  18. I'm more interested in part 3 because it has people in it unlike a bunch of animals so it's more easier to believe in my eyes.

  19. I think that the previous story really happened because he went into such detail and after a while you think it's real. The other story was quick and didn't make much sense. The other story went on for so long and he was talking as if all these things really happened to him. The new story was mainly him watching as things happened. The main story now seems as realistic as the new one.

  20. I like the story in part 2 better. It doesn't seem as bad, because of the animals and that is what they do kill each other. Plus part 2 would seem more real to me. I don't think that a person would really kill another person just because. It made the story less graphic and horrifying. -Chumani Wayd

  22. I don't believe the second story, because it just doesn't seem real. We went through the whole book thinking Pi was on a boat with a tiger. So when I read the story the with Pi's mom dying it just didn't seem real. I believe Pi was really on a boat with a tiger and survived. Because I think the tiger trusted and loved Pi.

  23. Part three definitely sounds more realistic, but it's still hard to believe. You would think that there would be more conversation if it was part 3. I really don't know what to believe.

  24. I honestly! don't know because it's like they both seem so realistic and like they both could be true!, I think I might have to just keep reading!. You know, like when you read something the first time it doesn't make the most sense, but when you read it a second time it seems to make way more sense. This might just be that case.. Im a little confused!

  25. i think the story that in part to because it actually happen. I think that if you don't mes with a tiger it wouldn't mess with you. I think that it didn't eat pi because it has tamed and i think he knew not to eat him. I think he ate everything else because pi told him to. I think that he at the animals because they was making to much nosie. What i think he got trianed not to eat him when they was at the zoo. I think that pi tamed just in case to make sure he don't attack him.

  26. I think the story in part two is the real story because the cover of the book and he came up with the story of the people after the Chinese people asked him to.

  27. I don't believe any of the stories. I think that he just wants everyone to think he did something cool on the boat. But if i believed anyone of them i would have believed the second one because its more realistic. Both stories have similarities that could be true.

  28. I believe that the first story is true, because even though it was fantastical at some points, there was a lot of detail and I don't think he could have made it up with that much detail. The second story just seemed like something that he made up on the spot to please the Japanese guys. It has humans instead of animals, but it seems less realistic. Also, while the first story took 277 days, it felt that the second story took a couple weeks or a month. It's possible that he made up the first story to cope with what happened, but I think that the first one is the real story.

  29. Well Part 2 I believe because it really happen. Part 3 was very interesting it wasn't boring at all like part 2 was. I would have like to believe in part 3 because it was more real to believe then the story with the animals. I really wish the second story was the first story because I would have gotten more into the book.

  30. I believe the first story more because its got alot of detail. But the second story is so fun to listen to. All of the blood makes me get more interested in the story. ahhh idk what to believe i really dont believe it at all.

  31. I believe the 3rd story because its sounds better because its no way for a human to be on a boat with animals!an they Asian people seem mean (talking about the cook)
