What is your experience with revision? What is the importance of editing and revising not only a huge research project, but also a simple paragraph? Why do so many students write an essay and turn it in without reading it?
Revision is important because it makes you spend more time with a piece. Even if you think it's good, even if you think it doesn't need anything more, it's good just to spend time with it. I have found recently that the more time you spend with any kind of work, the better it is (on average). I am a fast worker, but even I have found this to be true. So even if I am not really doing a whole lot with a piece, spending time with it and reading it and looking at every word carefully will help make sure it's great. I think most people don't go through with this because they simply don't have a deep understanding of their own work, and that understanding can only really be achieved with time and patience.
I am always revising because I know that I almost ALWAYS make some weird mistake that needs fixing. Like either spelling or grammar error. Sometimes punctuation. It is important because you want to make sure you don't go off track through your writing. They aren't asked or forced to read it and they just want to get it over with.
I usually write a final draft of something rather than a revision. I do this because I go over something a million times as I write. Usually when I finish it I'll take a quick glance over it but other than that it's done. I think students turn in things without reading it because they have a short attention span or did something last minute.
I have had a lot of practice with revision. My experience with revision is every time I write a paper or essay because you have to proof read everything you write.
I don't have MUCH experience with revision. The only times when I revise or proofread something is when I have a paper due or a poem. Read it or go over it before you submit it. They turn it in without reading it because they think that they already did everything that they had to do. Or they might have written a lot and just don't want to read it.
My experience with revision is mmh, pretty good. I'm pretty bad about it, when it comes to finding other people to try and get them to proof read what I have. The importance about editing is a project or paragraph, is that yeah your paper or whatever could be good but by proof reading you can make it better. So many students write papers without reading is because most students don't like to put in extra work. It's extra work.. who like that ??
To be honest, i don't that much experience with revision. A simple paragraph is proofreading and seeing what I can edit into a certain paragraph. Well since they write an essay, they think it seems its already good! -Jaquel
My experience with revision is when I write an essay or something and I look over it to see if there's anything I can change about it to make it better.
Revision is a boring and long process where pretty much you have to reread what you took (insert amount of time here) to write. BUT it's worth it if you do it right. My experience with revision is just that, you need to look over it and rewrite parts you think are sketchy or silly or badly written etc. Not really much else to do about it. Sometimes I don't revise right away, but a day before it's actually due because... Well it's kind of like a attention vampire, you only have so much attention for a certain amount of time before it sucks everything out. I would take a hefty bet that most students don't revise because they think it's the best already, that it won't get any better EVER. And they don't want the english vampire to suck any attention; they would rather have some other time consuming thing happen.
I have some experience, at least when I want to. For me, it's that I don't really know if I'm writing it right, editing it right or anything. I guess it's just that I'm unsure of myself. It's important to edit a essay because it is.. I don't know how to explain it, but I know it's important for reasons. A lot of people don't because either their lazy or they don't know how, or they don't think it's important.
Revision is important because when I write, my hand will write something different then what my brain is trying to say. I might think grammatically correctly but sometimes my hand we write/type "we" instead of "us". or I might repeat words. For example "I walked walked to the park."
Many students either forget to revise their papers or they think that they don't need to. They either don't think that they need to because they "do not make any mistakes while writing", or because they don't think it is needed.
I think revision is very important that is because a lot of are teachers makes us write drafts before we finish are final project so that you can see your mistakes than at the end it can come out right. ~JaQuazna

ReplyDeleteI don't really like revising because I can never really find my mistakes. Also, I don't like others reading my work so ya...
ReplyDeleteIt's important because otherwise you get points off for mistakes.
Because they don't revise it.
